'Souled Asylum' is a 16-piece predominently soul/R&B band comprised of local musicians playing live gigs for fun and enjoyment on a part-time basis, in the N.E Scotland area.

The emphasis is on producing a non-stop full blooded live stage-show which is without equal at local level.

The band mainly play in and around the Aberdeen area at public, private, corporate and charity events and attracts a strong following of loyal supporters.

Souled Asylum is committed to the promotion and enjoyment of classic soul/R&B music and prefers those gigs that provide a dance floor for the punters.

The stage show is carefully rehearsed to ensure a quality and consistent performance, but is executed with an impromptu attitude to provide that live, gutsy soul atmosphere.

The Band

The band when formed was determined not to be another typical local ensemble, so it carries its own mega 12k P.A system, 8k light system, portable stage, pyrotechnics etc etc, all carted around in a 7.5ton truck. This commitment is unheard of at local semi-pro level.
However, this self sufficiency guarantees reliability and together with the overall show, is what makes the band stand head and shoulders above all other local bands.

So, enough of the serious stuff. What's is 'Souled Asylum' really all about ?

Above, local venue "The Forum" provides the ideal stage for the Souled Asylum show.
Left, same venue, and below the white and blue collar brigades mix well to provide the strong back line. Matching guitar straps eh!.......ooooh!

The line up consists of male vocals, female vocals, female backing vocals, keyboards, Hammond, drums, bass, lead guitar, rythmn guitar and a four part brass line up.

Here's lead male vocalist Ian.

Four girls, Michele, Sara, Louise and Lisa have their chance to sing lead during the performance, but they also like to dance and shake to the music (in-time of course!).

Gigs usually consist of 2 sets just over one hour each starting with getting the fee paid cash up front. After the gig, the gear is set down and packed away by the hardy few and its off to bed we go.
A normal gig day will thus start at around 12 mid-day and end at 4am the next morning. Ask yourself is there any other local band that shows this level of dedication. In other words we must be nuts!

Pictured left, lead guitarist Jim (out of camera, Jim's monkey wrench volume control !) and piano/hammond organ toting Ken (his divvy to be reduced on account of his lazy left hand!).

Once in a while we get visitors on stage. Here's the one and only James Brown in the flesh (ok, plastic!) taking centre stage and the spot-light ahead of the band.

PS. Looks like he likes a drink, note the pint of beer to his left!..........I Feel Good!
